Smiles Are Us Park Holme Smile Solutions
If you have missing teeth, dentures offer one of the quickest and most affordable solutions to making your smile whole again. Our dental team provides both traditional and implant-supported denture designs, which offer efficient and reliable results, whether you have 2-3 missing teeth or need to replace all of them at once.
- Full Arch Dentures: Sometimes called “plates”, full dentures cover the entire arch (upper or lower jaw) to replace all teeth at once. Upper dentures create a suction between the acrylic and your soft gum tissue, helping it fit securely throughout the day. Lower dentures rely more on muscle control in your cheeks, lips and tongue to hold it in place.
- Partial Denture Options: When possible, we like to try to preserve as many natural teeth as we can. Instead of extracting healthy teeth for a full denture, we can create a partial appliance that snaps in around the teeth you still have. Partials often have a metal framework, but smaller designs can be made with a flexible acrylic base for better aesthetics.
- Implant-Supported Dentures: Dental implants provide added security to keep your denture firmly in place throughout the day. Depending on your preferences and oral health status, an implant denture can be removable or permanently attached to the implants underneath. As few as 2-4 implants may be all that is necessary.
Getting Used to Your New Dentures
It’s common to need a small amount of denture adhesive or paste for the first several weeks after getting a new denture. Plan to cut your food up into smaller pieces and practice eating different textures at home before going out with friends. Likewise, talking in the mirror and learning to enunciate your speech will help speaking with your new appliances feel more natural.
Be sure to take your denture out each night and soak it in an appropriate cleaning solution. Brush it clean the next morning to remove any loosened debris. ive yourself some time to adjust, as learning to wear your new appliances takes quite a bit of practice.
Denture Repair and Adjustments
Over time, dentures can wear out or need to be adjusted to keep them fitting properly. As our mouth changes throughout the years, your appliance may need to be relined to maintain a firm seal between the plate and your gums. We also offer denture repairs, should you accidentally drop your prosthesis.
